On 25 April 2015, a 7.8 magnitude earthquake struck Nepal near the capital of Kathmandu, causing massive devastation in the nation’s capital and largest city, with more than 5,800 fatalities officially confirmed as of 30 April. Rescue efforts are underway and the death toll continues to rise. Homes, buildings, and infrastructure have been badly damaged and destroyed.
