Mauritania unissued 1,000-ouguiya note (B111.5a) confirmed

This unissued 1,000-ouguiya note dated 1989 has only recently been confirmed, having never been previously documented in any form..

The confirmed 1989 date and A016 series roughly fits in sequence with the preceding issued notes of this denomination (B107), although the designs are completely different. It remains unknown why this note was produced and why it wasn’t introduced into circulation.

B111.5 (PNL): 1,000 ouguiya

Green, blue, and black. Front: Arabic text; ornate design. Back: French text; crescent moon and stars in corners; standing camel; modern ship at sea, fish jumping out of water, gantry cranes and warehouses with smokestacks. Solid security thread. Watermark: Bearded man. Printer: (Giesecke & Devrient). 165 x 90 mm. Paper.
