According to a press release dated 30 November 2023, Danmarks Nationalbank is developing a new series of banknotes to be introduced in 2028 – 2029 with improved security features. Prior to the issuance of the newly designed banknotes, the bank will withdraw, but not demonetize, old banknotes issued before 2009, and will eventually withdraw the 2009 series, too.
