According to a press release dated 2 February 2023, the Reserve Bank of Australia has decided to replace the portrait of the late Queen Elizabeth II on the front of its 5-dollar note with a new design that honors the culture and history of the First Australians. The back will continue to feature the Australian Parliament. The new note will take a number of years to be designed and printed. In the meantime, the current 5-dollar note (B230) will continue to be issued, and eventually it will circulate in parallel with the new note.
