According to an article on AllAfrica, the National Bank of Angola introduced a new polymer 500-kwanza note (B558a) on 17 September 2020. This joins the new 200-kwanza note (B557a) introduced on 30 July 2020, and will be followed by a new 1,000-kwanza note (B559a) in October and 2,000-kwanza note (B560a)
This 10,000-kwanza specimen is dated October 2012. Apparently it was produced in case inflation necessitated a larger denomination note. According to a press release dated 7 July 2020, the Banco Nacional de Angola is intoducing a new family of notes to commemorate the 45th anniversary of independence, declared on 11 November 1975 by Agostinho Neto, the first president of Angola, whose portrait appears on the front of the notes.
According to a Prensa Latina article dated 20 December 2019, the Banco Nacional de Angola has been authorized to introduce a new family of banknotes in 2020.
