Philippines senator assails similar colors of 100- and 1,000-peso notes (B1079a and B1083a)

According to an article on Rappler dated 14 May 2015, Senator Aquilino “Koko” Pimentel III has asked the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) to explain why the 100- and 1,000-peso banknotes are almost identical to each other and state if there are plans to improve the situation. BSP Deputy Governor Diwa C. Guinigundo admitted the notes have similar colors, but said, “If we really use our eyes and read the inscription, and not just look at the color, it’s easy to detect the difference between the P1,000 bill and the P100 bill.”

Guinigundo said there are no plans to alter the design which were approved by the BSP Monetary Board and the president of the Philippines. However, Guinigundo said that BSP is trying to adjust the color of the bills “to make sure that blue is really blue and violet is more violet,” hopefully improviing the contrast between the two.
