According to a press release, a new 1,000-córdoba note was issued to ease high-value transactions. A commemorative design was introduced 1 December 2016 to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the death of poet Rubén Darío, and a regular issue was introduced 2 January 2017, although didn’t enter widespread circulation until 20 March 2017.
