According to a ToloNews article dated 6 January 2020, Da Afghanistan Bank awarded a US$8.5 million contract to the Polish Security Printing Works (PWPW) for 10 billion afghanis in new notes in denominations of 10, 20, 50, and 100 afghanis to be delivered within six to 18 months.
On 1 February 2021, the Polish embassy in New Delhi, India announced that PWPW had delivered to Afghanistan 380 million newly printed banknotes that are like the preceding issues, but with anti-soiling coating Fortis Pro and Coat4Note varnish.
