According to a press release dated 6 July 2020, the Bank of Ireland UK introduced a new 20-pound note on 20 July 2020. In addition to the transition to polymer substrate, the note’s security is enhanced with a clear window in the holographic stripe and iridescent ink. The note also has a tactile feature with three arrangements of four dots in a square formation, enabling physical identification for the visually impaired.
The new polymer notes will circulate in parallel with the paper 20-pound notes. There are currently no changes to the Bushmills 50-pound note (B135) or to the Queen’s University Belfast 100-pound note (B128).
