Poland announces new 500-złoty note (B864a) for introduction in 2018

During a press conference on 23 June 2015, Marek Belka, president of the National Bank of Poland, announced that in 2018 the bank intends to introduce a 500-złoty note with a portrait of King Jan III Sobieski (John Sobieski), thereby keeping with the theme of the other denominations which feature “The monarchs of Poland.” The new note will be designed by Andrzej Heidrich, the artist responsible for all other notes in this family. The introduction of this larger denomination is intended to cut costs and streamline economic transactions.
