On 8 December 2024, Bangladesh Bank and the government approved the printing of new notes commemorating the July 2024 Revolution which led to the ouster of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. While no designs were unveiled, authorities revealed that the new notes will no longer include a portrait of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, but instead will feature new images of religious structures, Bengali traditions, and “graffiti” drawn during the July uprising. Notes denominated in 20, 100, 500, and 1,000 taka are expected for introduction in the first half of 2025. Notes denominated in 1, 2, 5, 10, 50, and 200 taka are expected at some unspecified later date.
