Zimbabwe new 1-, 2,- and 5-zig notes (B198 – B200) reportedly shelved in favor of coins

Pursuant to Satutory Instrument 60 of 2024, on 5 April 2024, the Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe unveiled a new family of coins and banknotes denominated in Zimbabwe gold (expressed as ZiG on the notes) with denominations from 1 to 200 zig.

However, pursuant to Satutory Instrument 75 of 2024, the 1-, 2-, and 5-zig denominations were reportedly introduced on 26 April as coins, not banknotes. As such, it’s unlikely that these banknotes will ever by introduced as originally planned.
