On 18 January 2021, Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas introduced a new 5,000-peso note featuring Lapulapu, a Filipoino hero who vanquished Portuguese conquistador Ferdinand Magellan and his army in their attempt to colonize Mactan Island.
