According to Central Bank of Costa Rica press release dated 23 July 2020, the bank intends to introduce polymer versions of the 2,000-, 5,000-, and 20,000-colon notes in the coming months. A polymer 10,000-colon note was also announced, but without an estimated introduction date.Read More…

According to a press release dated 4 June 2020, the Banco Central de Costa Rica is withdrawing 50-colon notes (B563a) from circulation, though they remains legal tender. The news comes two years after the bank stopped issuing the denomination due to lack of demand for such a high-value note.Read More…
