Bank Al-Maghrib<\/a> issued a 50-dirham (US$6.45) note in mid-October 2009 to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the central bank. Apparently 4 million notes will be issued at face value.<\/p>\n

This is the first commemorative banknote issued in Morocco. It was designed by Roger Pfund, the Swiss artist who has also designed notes for Switzerland, France, and the European Union.<\/p>\n

The front of the 147 x 70 mm green note features portraits of Kings Mohammed VI, Hassan II, Mohammed V. The back depicts the headquarters of Bank Al-Maghrib in Rabat. The speech delivered in 1959 by Mohammed V at the opening of Bank Al Maghrib is microprinted in on the back.<\/p>\n
