Hungary new 2,000- and 5,000-forint notes reported for 01.03.2017 introduction

According to a press release, the Magyar Nemzeti Bank intends to introduce new 2,000- and 5,000-forint notes into circulation on 1 March 2017, although they were declared legal tender from 15 November 2016. Existing notes of the same denominations will circulate in parallel until 31 July 2017, after which time they will be withdrawn, but will not be demonetized until 31 July 2037. A new 1,000-forint note is planned for the second half of 2017.

The new notes have enhanced security features.
